Blue Flag status for Mundesley beach in 2026
The parish council are delighted to share the news that Mundesley beach has retained its Blue Flag status for 2026. A Blue Flag beach is a coastal area that has earned one of the world’s most recognised awards for environmental quality, safety, and visitor experience.
A Blue Flag is only awarded when the beach has been independently assessed and shown to meet high standards in four key areas:
- Environmental quality — The water must be exceptionally clean, with regular testing for pollutants. Litter management and protection of local ecosystems are also required.
- Safety and services — Lifeguards or lifesaving equipment must be available, along with clear signage, first‑aid access, and safe swimming zones.
- Environmental education — The beach must provide information about local wildlife, ecosystems, and responsible behaviour, often through displays or activities.
- Sustainable management — Facilities such as toilets, waste bins, and pathways must be well maintained, and the beach must follow responsible environmental practices.
