Road Closure – the coast road between Cromer and Mundesley through Overstrand, Sidestrand and Trimingham – Surface Dressing Works

Work is due to start on Tuesday 13 May 2025 to surface dress a section of the C634 Cromer Road. To allow the work to be carried out safely and swiftly it will be necessary to close the road to through traffic on a number of dates The work will involve surface dressing, line painting and cat’s eyes (road studs) being renewed. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.

The work, which is weather dependant, will be carried out in phases. Road closures will only be in place for a few hours at a time on the following dates:

  • 13 May to 15 May (main dressing) day works 6am – 4pm Road Closure
  • 22 May to 25 May (first surface dressing) overnight works 7pm – 5am Road Closure.

A fully signed diversion route will be in operation for the duration of the works. Norfolk County Council thanks people for their patience while this essential road maintenance work is carried out.

The work is expected to cost approximately £197,000 and will be carried out by Norfolk County Council’s Infrastructure Department and their contractors Tarmac and Keir Highway Services.

This year 280 miles of Norfolk’s roads will get a new seal to extend the life of the road. The new seal consists of a thin layer of bitumen and chippings which is laid onto the road. This helps prevent water penetration and helps stop potholes opening up.

The action of vehicles passing over the new surface plays an important part in helping the new surface to settle in. People are urged to drive slowly and considerately across the new surface until it is bedded in and highway teams return a few days later to sweep up the loose stones.
